BIO

Stoning Giants’ distinctive rock sound boasts flavors of metal, punk, soul and funk featuring the powerhouse voice of Lawrence Sawyer, high-energy guitar of C.J. Ries, groovy beats of Sean Ely and the bad-to-the-bone bass stylings of Jedediah Jester.

Stoning Giants was formed in 2013 and quickly began performing private parties, clubs and festivals, such as Seattle’s 2013 Hemp Fest. Stoning Giants’ break-out CD “Clear as Mud,” was released in 2014 and received airtime on KINK and 94.7 FM radio in Portland Ore.

In 2019, the single “Sifting Ashes,” a haunting tale of the 2018 Paradise Camp Fire, was released. It received thousands of YouTube views and now in 2026, Stoning Giants is releasing singles and pushing its new album release “Finger in the Air.”

Lawrence Sawyer – Vocals & Guitar

Sawyer is a mainstay rocker from Portland, Ore., formerly heading bands Diamond Edge, Core, Hundred Horse, Braid and Untyd. Sawyer has an original and organic sound.

Jedediah Jester – Bass Guitar

Jester, the groove master of Grants Pass, Ore., also played for several metal bands in Oregon including Untyd and Deflower.

CJ Ries – Lead Guitar

Ries, a home-grown Portlandian-shredder, is a young prodigy who channels every ‘70s rock song known to man. His electrifying sound and performance are a constant fan favorite.

Sean Ely – Drums

Ely is also a mainstay rocker from Portland and son of the Kingsmen’s Jack Ely. Sean has been a session drummer for many years and also played with Lawrence Sawyer back in 2001 with the band Braid.
